Fee Credit for Sellers, $5 Minimum Donation and More!
We're always working to turn your good ideas into a better eBay Giving Works program and we're excited to announce some great changes that will do just that.
September 14, 2006

Get a fee credit when you donate through eBay Giving Works!

In the spirit of giving, eBay will reward the generosity of sellers who donate by offering the eBay Giving Works Fee Credit Policy. When any seller's eBay Giving Works listing sells, eBay will credit the Insertion and Final Value Fees back to the seller, equal to the percentage of the final sale price that the seller had elected to donate. For example, if a seller donates 50% of an item’s final sale price, then 50% of their Insertion and Final Value fees will be credited back to them.

Questions about these changes?

eBay and MissionFish will be hosting a workshop on September 14 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. PST
to answer your questions about these changes.

Note: The fee credit will not be immediately reflected in the seller's invoice. Sellers will receive a credit to their account approximately six weeks later (eBay is hoping to shorten this time in the future).

The Fee Credit Policy replaces the Fee Donation policy, and applies to eBay Giving Works listings that will end on or after October 1, 2006.

The minimum donation is now $5!
After listening to strong feedback from sellers and nonprofits alike, MissionFish and eBay Giving Works have lowered the minimum donation to $5. Now it's easier for everyone to use eBay Giving Works more often and for more types of items, which in turn helps more nonprofits receive funds to carry on their work. If you've found yourself not using eBay Giving Works more often because of the $10 minimum, this is your opportunity to list more items and help fantastic causes!

Now when you create an eBay Giving Works listing and the item sells, your minimum commitment will either be $5 or the percentage of your item's final sale price that you've opted to donate—whichever is greater. Any existing eBay Giving Works listings that ended on or after 12:01 a.m. PST on September 14 qualified for this new lower minimum donation requirement. As usual, there is no minimum donation for Nonprofit Direct Sellers.

The MissionFish share is new too
To remain an efficient fundraising tool, we've also changed the amount we deduct from each donation. Under our old policy, the MissionFish share was $3 + 2.9% (as much as 33% from some donations). In the new system the MissionFish share is a sliding-scale percentage: our share gets smaller as the donation gets bigger. This means that for the majority of donations (most are under $10), we will keep significantly less than before.

The table below shows exactly how it will work, but our overall share will average 10% of Community Seller donations:

To make it as easy to know what the nonprofit will receive from any listing, we’ve also created donation calculator!

Changes to our user agreements
The new minimum donation and MissionFish deductions require us to update our user agreements for sellers and nonprofits.  These changes took effect for existing users on September 14, 2006.  Use the links below to compare our old and new user agreements and see what’s different:

All of these changes took effect for eBay Giving Works items that sold after 12:01 AM (PST) on Thursday, September 14, 2006.  The changes went into effect for all transactions after that date, regardless of when they were posted.
