Why does PayPal Giving Fund hold donations for a while?
- eBay gives buyers and sellers a 45-day “refund period” after each listing ends to fully work out the transaction. If something goes wrong (if the item arrives broken, the buyer never pays, etc.), they can use this period to resolve the issue.
- We hold each donation that resulted from a charity listing for the same amount of time, just in case the seller needs their donation refunded. If that happens, it’s better for us to have it and refund it, rather than delivering it to a nonprofit and then having to ask for it back.
- Donate Now funds aren’t tied to eBay transactions, so we don’t have to hold them for as long.
