Why does MissionFish keep part of the donation?
- We’re a nonprofit, but operating this program isn’t free. We keep a small deduction from each donation to offset bank fees and other expenses.
- It costs us money to:
- Screen nonprofits
- Process donations
- Keep our technology running
- Provide customer service
- And a hundred other jobs we do every day to administer eBay Giving Works.
- The amount we keep doesn’t cover all of our expenses, but every bit helps. Because MissionFish is part of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, 100% of each donation we receive is still tax-deductible (including our deduction).
- Please note we only keep part of the donation for Community Seller transactions and Donate Now gifts. There is no deduction when Nonprofit Direct Sellers sell on their own behalf.
-
How much do you keep?
- We never keep more than 20% of a Community Seller donation ($0.20 out of $1); and our average deduction is roughly 10%. The deduction is based on the size of the donation and gets smaller as the amount gets bigger.
- We keep 3.75% of each Donate Now gift, which is one of the lowest processing rates for nonprofits that accept gifts online. The Donate Now feature is cheaper and easier for us to offer, so we can afford to keep less of each gift.
