  • How to register with PayPal Giving Fund

  • Every nonprofit must register with and be certified by PayPal Giving Fund to be part of eBay Giving Works. This includes nonprofits who want to receive donations and nonprofits who want to fundraise by selling on eBay.
  • top

  • Complete the registration form

  • It takes about five minutes to complete the PayPal Giving Fund nonprofit registration form. To get started:
    1. Click the Register link.
    2. Read and approve our nonprofit user agreement, including our terms of service.
    3. Supply the information required in each field:
  • Nonprofit name
255 characters and spaces or less. Enter your name carefully - it will appear in many places on eBay.  Nonprofit names are listed alphabetically.
  • Mission statement
512 characters and spaces or less (about 40 words). Your mission statement will appear in every eBay listing benefiting your nonprofit.  Sellers can also search for words in your mission statement to find you.
  • Keywords
Choose up to five other keywords, not in your name or mission statement that describe your work.
  • PayPal Giving Fund will use these keywords to help sellers and buyers find you in our Nonprofit Directory. For example, if you are a nonprofit helping children with cancer, you may want to add keywords such as “hospital,” “leukemia,” etc. Also if you your nonprofit name has an often-used acronym (i.e. NMSS for National Multiple Sclerosis Society) add that as a key word too.
  • Mission areas
Choose up to three mission areas that best suit your nonprofit (hold down the CTRL key to choose more than one). Mission areas are another way buyers and sellers can search for your organization in the Nonprofit Directory.
  • Website URL
Enter your web address. The web address you enter will appear as a link on your About My Nonprofit page. Don't type "http://" before your web address; we'll take care of that. Please read our special notice about online fundraising..
  • Nonprofit logo
Upload your logo in .gif, .jpg or .jpeg format. Other image formats (bitmap, .tiff, etc.) will not upload correctly, and may end your registration session. Your logo must also be smaller than 50 kilobytes.
  • For best results, use a color logo 150+ pixels wide, with at least 72 dpi (dots per inch) resolution. Logos smaller than 150 pixels wide may appear fuzzy or distorted. Tall logos look best when they are less than 250 pixels high.
  • Examples of good logos for uploading:

  • EIN
Employer Identification Number (EIN) is usually the number that appears on your nonprofit's 501(c)(3) letter from the IRS.
  • Nonprofit type
Select the one that best describes why your organization is tax-deductible. We use this to verify that your proof of deductibility is adequate.
  • 501(c)(3) organizations
  • Churches, mosques and synagogues
  • Subordinates and local chapters of large organizations
  • Small nonprofits (under $5,000 in revenue)
  • Government agencies
  • Contact information (name, address, phone, fax and email)
Enter information for the person who will be administering your PayPal Giving Fund account on a daily basis. This is who we'll notify when a listing is posted on your nonprofit's behalf and if we have questions.
  • Note: You'll need to be able to check this email account to complete your registration.
  • General office phone number
We need a main office number in case we can't reach your main contact (i.e., if they leave the organization).
  • Bank account details
This is the bank account where we will send your donations via Electronic Funds Transfer. Enter the bank account number and bank routing number
  • We take the privacy and security of your personal information very seriously. We use secure socket layer (SSL) to protect your data, and adhere to a strict privacy policy.
  • Item email preferences
There are several ways to be notified about Community Seller listings that benefit your organization. Select the one that's best for you:
  • Never notify me. You will not be notified about any new listings posted on your behalf.
  • Notify me about new listings. You'll get an email when someone lists an item for you (except if they are on the "no-notification" list). You will not be notified of changes made to the listing.
  • Notify me about new listings and listing changes. You'll get an email when someone lists an item for you, and if the seller changes that listing.
  • Program URL
This is your nonprofit's website address.

  • We’ll send a confirmation email

  • After you've submitted the registration form, we'll send a message to test your email address. Follow the instructions in this email to confirm your email address.
  • Didn’t get this email?  Check your spam filter first, then Contact Community Care.

  • Create your username and password

  • By default, your PayPal Giving Fund username is your email address, but you can change it to anything you want. Passwords must be at least six characters long, are case-sensitive, and cannot include spaces.
  • If you leave the organization, be sure to pass along the username and password to the new account manager.
  • top

  • Fax us your signed PayPal Giving Fund confirmation page, proof of tax deductibility and a voided check

  • After creating a username and password, please send us your signed PayPal Giving Fund confirmation page, proof of tax deductibility and a voided organization check. You may fax this to (202) 330-5545 or email a scanned copy to fax-us@PayPal Giving Fund.org.
  • We will use the bank account and routing number on this check to deliver donations made to your nonprofit by Community Sellers.
  • Note: We cannot complete your certification without receiving these documents.

  • A voided organization check

  • We need the voided check to verify that the bank account we’re paying belongs to your organization. We require this information to prevent someone from diverting donations intended for your nonprofit.
  • Note: We will never make any charges to the bank account you provide for delivering donations.
  • If you don't have checks available for the bank account you're using, we need a document supplied by your bank that includes the following:
  • The bank's logo and address
  • Your nonprofit's name and address
  • The bank account number
  • The bank's ABA routing number
  • Unfortunately, we can't accept the following kinds of information as verification of your bank account:

  • Notify your accounting department

  • Let your accounting department know (and anyone who oversees the bank account you provided) that your organization has registered with PayPal Giving Fund and may be receiving monthly Electronic Funds Transfers (EFTs) from us.
  • Your donations will be delivered directly into your account on or about the 25th of each month and will be deposited under the name "PayPal Giving Fund."

  • Our nonprofit certification process

  • We carefully review each nonprofit before certifying them to use eBay Giving Works. We ensure that they are a tax-deductible organization and meet eBay Community standards. We also take steps to ensure that the PayPal Giving Fund account is created by an employee or authorized agent, and that the bank account they provide really belongs to the organization.
  • We also regularly monitor our certified nonprofits to ensure that they remain in good standing with our rules.
  • Note: We reserve the right to allow or refuse any organization. We also reserve the right to modify our standards and practices as we deem necessary.
