MissionFish expenses policy
- MissionFish retains a small portion of each donation we process to offset credit card fees and other operating expenses. Because we're a nonprofit, this portion (which we call "The MissionFish Share") is necessary in order for our organization to operate.
- Community Seller donations – Credit Card, Debit Card or PayPal
- Community Seller donations – Check or EFT
- Donate Now gifts
- Give $1 donations

Community Seller donations - Credit Card, Debit Card or PayPal
- The MissionFish Share is based on the size of an individual Community Seller donation: our percentage gets smaller as the donation gets bigger. We never take more than 20%, and our average share of all donations processed is approximately 10%.

Community Seller donations - Check or EFT
- MissionFish allows Community Sellers to make donations by bank-certified check or electronic funds transfer (EFT), when the total due is $1,000.00 or greater. This table illustrates the specific amount that MissionFish retains from a Community Seller donation made by check or EFT:

Donate Now Gifts
- The MissionFish Share for gifts made through Donate Now is 3.75% of the amount given. This is one of the lowest processing rates for nonprofits that accept gifts online.
- If the donor chooses to give an extra 3.75% (tax-deductible), we’ll pass along 100% of the original donation. The Donate Now feature is cheaper and easier for us to offer, so we can afford to keep less of each gift.

Give $1 donations
- The MissionFish Share for $1 donations made through eBay checkout is $0.05 (5%).

How does it compare?
- The BBB Wise Giving Alliance
recommends that nonprofits spend less than 35% of their overall income on fundraising expenses. Our share – 10% for Community Selling, 3.75% for Donate Now and 5% for Give $1 - is well below that standard. - Our share is also less than what many nonprofits pay for comparable fundraising activities, for things like:
- Credit card and monthly service fees for donation processing on their own website.
- Printing, postage and mailing lists for a direct mail fundraising appeal.
- Marketing and consulting costs for a capital campaign.
