- 3rd Annual Celebrity Auction Honors World AIDS Day BID 2 BEAT AIDS
begins December 1, 2007 to benefit LIFEbeat - December 1, 2007 (World AIDS Day) — Bidding begins on eBay for BID 2 BEAT AIDS, an annual auction of rare and autographed items from stars in music, film, theatre, sports, politics, and television. Proceeds benefit LIFEbeat, the Music Industry Fights AIDS. In its first two years, the auction raised over $150,000 to support AIDS/HIV programs that reach countless people nationwide. The auction start date, December 1, coincides with the commemoration of World AIDS Day. Sponsors include MTV and Borders Books & Music.
- LIFEbeat has amassed nearly 1000 items for the 2007 BID 2 BEAT AIDS auction: CDs signed by artists including Mariah Carey, Rihanna, Vanessa Hudgens, Fall Out Boy, Maroon 5, Amy Winehouse, Jay-Z, and Taylor Hicks; signed books by Madonna, Jason Alexander, Ethan Hawke, Rosie O’Donnell, Stephen Colbert, Alan Greenspan, Paula Deen, and John Edwards; posters signed by Britney Spears, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Elijah Wood, Kirsten Dunst, Beyonce, Matthew McConaughey, and Jim Carrey; record presentation plaques from Jennifer Lopez, Green Day, Norah Jones, and Aerosmith; as well as DVDs, photos, set lists, instruments, scripts, magazines, Broadway programs, press kits, and other autographed memorabilia. New items are donated daily.
- Some of the more unique items include a hat signed by Borat’s Sacha Baron Cohen; a promo box of Flakies cereal from Blades of Glory signed by Will Ferrell and Jon Heder, a bathrobe signed by Hilary Duff, worn on The Andy Milonakas Show; VMA All-Access Talent passes signed by Cameron Diaz, Victoria Beckham, Robin Williams, and others; an autographed horse mask worn in concert by Korn; an acoustic guitar signed by The Cure; an i-Pod designed by Yoko Ono; a Reebok sneaker signed by Nelly; signed scripts from Grey's Anatomy, Weeds, and One Tree Hill; a meet-and-greet with Joan Rivers, and seating placeholders from the VMA’s autographed by Jessica Beil, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and more.
- The centerpiece of the BID 2 BEAT AIDS auction is one-of-a-kind celebrity autographed “Lend-A-Hand to LIFEbeat” card series. Stars traced their hands on special paper, adding their own personal artistic touch and a signature. Sex and the City’s Cynthia Nixon (who illustrated her hand as a bunny), Frasier’s David Hyde Pierce, Fantasia Barrino (who dipped her hand into purple paint backstage at Broadway's The Color Purple), Deborah Gibson, Elton John, Gym Class Heroes, Salt-N-Pepa, Tim Gunn, Lil Mama, John O’Hurley, Sinead O’Connor (donating what is perhaps the most controversial "Lend-A-Hand"), and over 100 others have already participated in this unique charity project.
