  • Encourage Donors to Support You with eBay Giving Works!
  • What’s the best kind of fundraising? The easy kind. Your nonprofit can raise funds with eBay Giving Works by doing minimal legwork. It’s called Community Selling and it’s when any member of the eBay Community sells an item to benefit your organization. They do the listing, you get the funds. It’s that simple.
  • Ask supporters to list an item

  • The best way to begin benefiting from Community Selling is to encourage your supporters to give it a try. Some of the most popular ways nonprofits spread the word to their supporters are via:
  • A special page on their website
  • An article in an e-newsletter
  • An email
  • A pre-approved eBay Giving Works banner or button on their website
  • But don’t be afraid to get creative! They are other ways to shout it out, too, such as: blogs, videos, information in brochures, flyers, church bulletins, etc.
  • Make the message matter

  • Get specific in your appeal and paint a vivid picture of how the Community Sellers’ funds will be used. For instance, if your nonprofit is currently raising funds to purchase playground equipment for disabled children, you may want to say: Every donation you make to us through eBay Giving Works brings us closer to purchasing a modified swing-set for disabled children in our community.
  • The more moving the message, the more likely it is to spur your donors to becoming Community Sellers.
  • Initiate ideas

  • Not all of your donors are bound to have eBay businesses, but nearly all of them probably have something lying around they no longer need. Ask them to check in their closets, attics, basements, garages, and offices for items they could list with eBay Giving Works. Let them know that their children’s outgrown clothes, unneeded holiday gifts, and other items could all be sold to bring in funds for your mission.
  • Drive the message home

  • It’s important to get the word out to your supporters during the year about selling on eBay Giving Works to support your organization. You may want to include a call to action in all of your newsletters or put something on your site every three months as a reminder. People never know when they may come across a fabulous thing that could be your next big fundraiser so be sure to keep the message top-of-mind for them!
